Lace me up!

Before I went to the lace: HERE:NOW exhibition, I had already planned to use lace knitted fabric to try and recreate the string vest for men, I know, some would properly put a big question mark next to the idea of men in lace but I have a feeling it will work and look quite interesting and masculine (I hope). The event came at a perfect time, I wanted to really understand the history behind lace and how different people were using it in these modern times. The event was amazing, the thing I loved most (minus the free food and drink of course)was how many people were inspired by the same piece of fabric but had their own interpretation, crating different things. They were all inspired by lace but had used it for complete different things. This encouraged me to continue you with my idea but make it unique and stand out.
At the event I was really excited to see a ‘Jabot’, it was a cascade of ruffles or frills down the front of the shirt or dress to hide the closure around in the 1915-20. It was worn by Men and women. This further encouraged me that I could use lace for men in my collection.
Here are a few images I took on the night!

I love the detail and how delicate it looks
